Biography
Johnny Storm is the reason the Fantastic Four are fun. The cosmic rays turned Marvel's cockiest teenager into a walking plasma event, and he has spent six decades treating that as a licence rather than a responsibility. He ignites his whole body, flies at supersonic speed, shapes fire into rings and walls and figures, and at full output releases a nova flame that briefly matches the surface of a star.
The comedy is real and so is the damage. Johnny burned through a Hollywood marriage to a Skrull, watched his best friend become a rock monster because he goaded him into flying a rocket, and died in the Negative Zone holding a portal shut so his family could get out. His resurrection two issues later did not undo the point: the show-off is the one who steps into the gap.
He is also Marvel's original teen idol with a fire licence, the character Stan Lee gave a solo strip to within a year because readers could not get enough. Pair him with Ben Grimm and you get the best double act in comics; pair him with Spider-Man and you get two loudmouths refusing to be the adult in the room.

Comics history
Johnny was popular enough out of the gate that Marvel handed him a solo strip in Strange Tales starting in 1962, where he headlined for years and repeatedly teamed with Spider-Man and the Thing. Those stories established the template Marvel still uses: the Torch as the impulsive kid brother whose ego is the setup and whose courage is the punchline.
His long-term arcs cut deeper than the jokes suggest. He married Alicia Masters in the 1980s, only for Marvel to reveal she had been replaced by the Skrull Lyja, one of the era's most infamous retcons. In 2011 Jonathan Hickman killed him in Fantastic Four #587, holding the Negative Zone gate shut against Annihilus' army, and the surviving three retired the name in favour of FF. He came back in Fantastic Four #600 later that year, having spent the interval fighting in Annihilus' arenas.
