Villain profile
Annihilus
A being with no ambition except that nothing else should exist.
Annihilus rules the Negative Zone through a single obsessive fear: that something, somewhere, might outlive him. Everything he does follows from that. He hoards life energy through the Cosmic Control Rod strapped to his chest, breeds insectoid armies without limit, and treats the extinction of all other life as basic self-preservation rather than cruelty.
For decades he was a Fantastic Four antagonist, obsessed with Franklin Richards and the secret of Reed's portal technology. Then Marvel let him win. Annihilation in 2006 sent his Wave through a breach into our universe, where it obliterated a large section of the Kree Empire, gutted the Nova Corps and captured Galactus himself as a weapon. It took Richard Rider tearing him apart to end it.
Rated 1–7 on the classic Marvel power-grid scale.
The rod grants energy projection, matter manipulation, immortality and near-limitless power storage.
His armoured exoskeleton withstands cosmic-level assault.
Insectoid wings and rod-driven propulsion let him fly at extreme speed through space.
He drains vitality from other beings to sustain and rejuvenate himself.
The rod fires energy strong enough to level fortified positions.
Annihilus directs the Annihilation Wave, a breeding army of billions.
Lee and Kirby introduced him in Fantastic Four Annual #6 in 1968, the same issue that gave the world Franklin Richards, and the pairing was no accident: Annihilus spent years trying to use the Richards child. He became the definitive Negative Zone threat, alongside Blastaar, and a recurring obsession for Reed and Johnny.
Annihilation in 2006 turned him from a Fantastic Four villain into the biggest threat Marvel's cosmic line had faced. His Wave killed a large part of the Nova Corps, ravaged Kree space, and used a captured Galactus as a superweapon. Richard Rider killed him in Annihilation #6, and he has since returned via his rebirth cycle, including a run of stories where he grew back from infancy.
I am Annihilus, the living death that walks.
If anything lives, it may one day end me. So nothing will live.

Becomes the definitive Negative Zone threat across Fantastic Four.
Launches the Annihilation Wave and devastates the Kree Empire.
Captures Galactus and turns him into a weapon.
Killed by Nova in Annihilation #6.
