Biography

Cosmo was launched into orbit by the Soviet space programme, drifted into space, was exposed to something that rewrote his brain, and ended up as the telepathic chief of security for Knowhere, the severed Celestial head that serves as Marvel's cosmic waystation. He speaks in a thick Russian accent, thinks in complete sentences, and takes his job extremely seriously.

He is exactly as ridiculous and as beloved as that description suggests. Abnett and Lanning introduced him during the Annihilation era, where he became a fixture of Knowhere and an ally of the Guardians, and the MCU gave him to Maria Bakalova in Vol. 3, where the phrase bad dog turned into the most emotionally devastating running joke in the film.

Comics history

Cosmo debuted in Nova vol 4 #8 in 2008, one of the small strange ideas that made Marvel's Annihilation-era cosmic line so distinctive. He became Knowhere's security chief, a recurring ally of the Guardians and Nova, and eventually a fan favourite far out of proportion to his page count.
