Biography
Mystique picked up Anna Marie as a runaway and raised her alongside Destiny, which means the first adult who explained her powers to her was a terrorist with a war to fight. The lesson took. A boy named Cody Robbins kissed her behind a Mississippi outbuilding, her mutation switched on, and she felt him drain into her while he slipped into a coma. Everything Rogue pulls through bare skin comes with the rest of the person attached: strength, memories, temperament, the shape of somebody's grief. She grew up understanding touch as a weapon she could not set down.
Her breakout was as a villain. Rogue ambushed the Avengers and held on to Carol Danvers far too long, taking Ms. Marvel's Kree strength, flight and near-invulnerability permanently, and the whole of Carol's mind with them. That stolen psyche did not go quiet. It screamed inside her skull until it drove her to the one man who might help, and Xavier admitted her over the loudest objections in team history; Wolverine put a claw to her throat on day one. She spent the next decade earning the uniform through the Siege Perilous, through the horrors of Genosha, through every job nobody else could survive.
Then there was Gambit, and the longest slow burn in superhero comics: two people who wanted each other, one of whom could kill by kissing. Rogue eventually did learn control, and what surfaced once the tragedy lifted was a genuine field commander. She led the Avengers Unity Squad, held a seat at the Krakoan table, and married Remy LeBeau in a ceremony fans had waited a quarter of a century for. Anna Marie LeBeau is the X-Men's proof that a power set can be outgrown and a childhood spent among villains does not have to be a verdict.

Comics history
Chris Claremont and Michael Golden built Rogue as a threat, not a heroine. She debuted in Avengers Annual #10 (1981) taking apart Earth's Mightiest Heroes almost single-handed and stripping Carol Danvers of her powers and identity in one of the cruellest character beats of the era. Two years later Claremont did the thing that defined the X-Men's whole appeal: he had the villain walk into the mansion, ask for help, and get it. Rogue's integration into the team, over furious objections from Wolverine and a cold shoulder from most of the roster, remains the franchise's cleanest argument that redemption is available.
From there she became a workhorse lead. The late-eighties Outback years, the Siege Perilous and the Genoshan nightmare stripped her back to Anna Marie, and Jim Lee's 1991 relaunch paired her with Gambit, launching a will-they-won't-they that outlasted most marriages. Mike Carey's long run finally gave her control of her mutation and, with it, a career as a commander rather than a cautionary tale. Rick Remender put her in charge of the Avengers Unity Squad, X-Men Gold married her to Remy LeBeau in 2018, and the From the Ashes relaunch handed her a team of her own in Louisiana.

- Anna Paquin was cast as Rogue for the 2000 film at seventeen, and her scenes in X-Men: Days of Future Past were cut from the theatrical release and restored in a version fans nicknamed the Rogue Cut.

Why can't Rogue touch anyone?
Her mutation absorbs powers, memories and life force through skin-to-skin contact, and for most of her career it ran involuntarily. Anyone she touched went down, and a long enough contact could kill. Years of training eventually gave her a switch, so the modern Rogue can touch whoever she chooses.
How did Rogue get super strength and flight?
She stole them. In Avengers Annual #10 (1981) she held on to Carol Danvers long enough for the absorption to become permanent, keeping Ms. Marvel's Kree-derived strength, flight and durability. Carol's personality came along with the package and spent years fighting Rogue for control of her own head.
Did Rogue and Gambit actually get married?
