Biography

Infinity is the abstract embodiment of space, the counterpart to Eternity's embodiment of time, and together they represent the whole of the universe as a single pair of conscious principles. Mark Gruenwald introduced her while building out Marvel's cosmic hierarchy in Quasar, the series that did more than any other to formalise who outranks whom in Marvel's upper tiers.

Her opposite number is Oblivion, the entity of non-existence, just as Eternity's opposite is Death. That symmetry is the entire architecture of Marvel's cosmic order: existence and non-existence, space and void, each with an abstract embodiment, all of it answerable to the Living Tribunal. Infinity appears rarely, which is exactly correct for a being whose presence means the structure of reality is on the agenda.

Gruenwald's Quasar run in the early 1990s built the most systematic map of Marvel's cosmic hierarchy ever published, and Infinity is one of its key additions: the space-side counterpart to Eternity, balanced against Oblivion. She has since appeared in cosmic events whenever writers need to invoke the abstract tier, and Marvel's reference material treats her as a permanent fixture of the top of the ladder.
