Biography
Sprite is the cruellest joke in Kirby's pantheon: an Eternal who will live forever in the body of an eleven-year-old, permanently patronised by beings who are the same age as him. He compensates with illusions, pranks and stories, and the resentment underneath has made him one of the most dangerous members of the group whenever a writer takes it seriously.
Neil Gaiman took it very seriously indeed. His 2006 Eternals revealed that the entire premise, a pantheon of amnesiac immortals living ordinary human lives, was Sprite's doing: he had rewritten reality to strip his family of their memories and their powers so that he could finally grow up. Lia McHugh's film version follows the same logic, siding with Ikaris out of pure exhaustion with eternal childhood and ending the film transformed into a mortal human who will finally age.

Comics history
Kirby introduced Sprite as the pantheon's trickster, an eternally young Eternal whose illusions caused as much trouble as they solved. Neil Gaiman's 2006 Eternals made him the architect of the entire series premise, revealing that he had rewritten reality to erase his family's identities in a bid to escape perpetual childhood, which retroactively turned a comic-relief character into the most consequential Eternal of the modern era.
