A scientist who decided evolution was too slow and appointed himself its editor.
Biography
Herbert Wyndham was an Oxford geneticist who built a machine to accelerate evolution and then used it on everything he could reach, including himself. From his citadel on Wundagore Mountain he created the New Men, animals evolved into humanoid knights, and eventually elevated himself into something close to a god, complete with purple armour and the conviction that he is improving the universe.
He is one of Marvel's most consequential background figures. He named Adam Warlock and gave him the Soul Gem. He built Counter-Earth. Wundagore is where Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch were born. His signature failure is Man-Beast, and his signature crime, according to the MCU, is Rocket: a caged experiment who turned out smarter than his creator and was punished for it.

Comics history
Lee and Kirby introduced him in Thor #133 in 1966, and he has been quietly rewiring Marvel's mythology ever since. He renamed Him as Adam Warlock and handed him the Soul Gem in Marvel Premiere #1 in 1972. He created Counter-Earth as a laboratory for a perfected humanity. Wundagore Mountain, his base, is where Bova delivered the twins who became Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch.
The 1988 Evolutionary War crossover ran him across Marvel's annuals as a line-wide threat, and later stories have used him for everything from Spider-Man arcs to the origins of Marvel's animal-human hybrids. He is the go-to explanation whenever Marvel needs somebody to have engineered a species.
