Biography

Crystalia Amaquelin controls the four classical elements — earth, air, fire and water — which in practice means she throws flame, calls storms, splits stone and manipulates atmosphere with a range most Inhumans cannot match. She is Medusa's younger sister, Black Bolt's sister-in-law, and the member of the Royal Family least willing to accept that Attilan should stay hidden from the world.

That restlessness gave her the most varied resume in Inhuman history. Crystal joined the Fantastic Four as Sue Richards' replacement, married Quicksilver and had a daughter, Luna, served on the Avengers, led Fantastic Force, and worked as Attilan's ambassador to Earth and later to the Kree. Her romantic history with Johnny Storm and Pietro Maximoff has been comics soap opera at its most enthusiastic, but the through-line is consistent: Crystal is the Inhuman who keeps choosing engagement over isolation.

Comics history

Crystal debuted in Fantastic Four #45 (1965) and became the first Inhuman to integrate properly with Earth's heroes, joining the Fantastic Four during Sue Richards' pregnancy and dating Johnny Storm — a relationship complicated by her inability to tolerate 1960s New York pollution.

She married Quicksilver, had a daughter named Luna, joined the Avengers in the 1990s, and led Fantastic Force. Later runs used her as Attilan's chief diplomat during War of Kings and Infinity, and she has consistently been the Royal Family member Marvel deploys when a story needs an Inhuman who can operate in the wider universe.

  • Early stories established that Earth's pollution physically sickened her, forcing her back to Attilan.
  • She dated both Johnny Storm and Pietro Maximoff, and married the latter — one of Marvel's longest-running romantic triangles.
  • Lockjaw is effectively her travelling companion, teleporting her between Attilan and Earth for decades.
