Biography
Belasco took Illyana Rasputina out of the X-Mansion at six years old. She came back seven Limbo years later as a teenager, which is the cruellest piece of comic-book arithmetic Marvel ever ran: her brother lost a little sister and got a stranger with a sword. Limbo made her its heir. She carries the Soulsword, a blade that cuts magic instead of flesh, and a suit of demonic armour that grows one plate at a time as her soul corrupts, which makes her costume a running status bar for how much of her is left.
Her mutant power is the stepping disc, a golden ring of Limbo she opens anywhere, moving through space and, when she is careless, through time. That makes her the most tactically useful mutant on any roster and the most dangerous, because every trip touches the realm that raised her. She led the New Mutants as a child soldier, died of the Legacy Virus before she was old enough to drive, and came back to rule Limbo as its Sorcerer Supreme and command the New Mutants on Krakoa. Illyana is the X-Men's proof that childhood damage can be weaponised.

Comics history
Illyana existed for seven years purely as Colossus's little sister before Claremont handed her the darkest arc of his entire run: abducted, aged, corrupted and made a sorcerer while still a child. Bill Sienkiewicz's New Mutants art made Limbo genuinely frightening rather than decorative. Then Marvel killed her with the Legacy Virus in the early 1990s and it stuck for years, a real death in a line famous for not having them. Her long road back through Darkchylde and the 2000s revivals turned her into a top-tier magic user, and the Krakoa era finally gave her the New Mutants to run herself. Her trauma was allowed to make her powerful rather than fragile.
